Friction Stir Welding Engineer at Solvus Global

The role will involve developing Friction Stir Welding parameters, building large parts for customers, selecting materials, designing fixturing, and driving the business case for friction stir 3D printing.

Successful applicants will have a minimum of five years’ experience in friction stir welding and will have previously operated friction stir welding equipment and designed fixtures and building parts. CAD/CAM experience is also required, including an understanding of g-code, and a degree in mechanical, materials, and welding engineering is desirable.

Electrical Engineer at Thought3D

3D printing adhesives developerThought3Dis looking for an Electrical Engineer to work out of its Maltese facility. The main responsibilities of the role will be to assemble and test the new electronic product the company is launching, as well as to help customers with technical queries regarding the product. There will also be the chance to develop new products in the near future.

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field, and will showcase strong problem solving, technical, mathematical, and scientific skills. Experience in electronics design and assembly is also required, as is experience in C/C++ programming, data collection, and report writing.

3D Systems expands technology leadership team

3D printer manufacturer3D Systemshas expanded its executive leadership team with the appointment of industry veteran Dr. David Leigh to the role of Chief Technology Officer for Additive Manufacturing. Leigh will be tasked with expanding and accelerating application development and product innovation for the company’s production-scale additive manufacturing offerings.

Leigh brings more than three decades of experience in the additive manufacturing sector to the role, having previously served as the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operations Officer forEOSand founded Harvest Technologies, a pioneer firm in end-use parts for aerospace that was acquired byStratasys公司in 2014.

The expansion of 3D Systems’ technology leadership capacity is a reflection of the acceleration of additive manufacturing adoption across the healthcare and industrial markets, the company says. Off the back of Leigh’s arrival, 3D Systems Co-founder Chuck Hull announced he is to increase his emphasis on biotechnology as Chief Technology Officer for Regenerative Medicine, having achievedseveral recent breakthroughsin this field.

Ultimaker appoints Jürgen von Hollen as CEO

Dutch 3D printer manufacturerUltimakerhas appointed Jürgen von Hollen to the role of CEO, in light of outgoing CEO Jos Burger announcing his retirement and transitioning to the company’s Supervisory Board.

Von Hollen brings extensive international experience within fast-growing technology industries, having previously served as President and CEO atUniversal Robotswhere he played a key role in growing and establishing the company as a market leader. He has also held leadership positions at the likes ofBilfinger SE,Daimler-Chrysler Services,T-Systems, andPentair.

6K appoints Mary Cronin Vice President of Government Affairs

Specialist 3D printing materials developer6Khas added Mary Cronin to its executive leadership team in the role of Vice President of Government Affairs. Cronin’s extensive experience in US public policy, state and federal government relations, in addition to her knowledge of local, state, federal, non-profit and corporate outreach, will aid 6K in driving sustainability, national security and supply chain, the firm said.

Cronin will navigate and build relationships with the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense among other bodies, will bolster the growing number of SLA programs 6K has been awarded.

“Issues like battery manufacturing in the US, of which there is near zero capability currently, and securing critical elements like titanium domestically, pose a national threat to the country,” said Aaron Bent, 6K CEO. “Our UniMelt production platform can be a key driving force in solving these issues. Sintavia hires new Chief Financial Officer

3D printing service bureauSintaviahas appointed Brian Haggenmiller as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer. Haggenmiller joins Sintavia from his role of Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis at aviation leaderAerSale Corp, where he led the firm’s financial planning efforts in the lead of it going public in 2020, and evaluated a wide range of commercial aerospace transactions.

Yuliya Deichsel strengthens Fehrmann ALLOYS’ sales team

Prior to joining Fehrmann, Deichsel was involved in technical projects for various machine manufacturers and automotive part producers for 16 years, and has previously been responsible for expanding European-wide sales networks within the automotive sector as a Sales Manager. Her primary role will be to exploit the potential of 3D metal printing as a future technology for European and American industrial companies.

DOST launches Philippines’ first AM hub

Rounding off with facility news, and the Philippines’Department of Science and TechnologyMetals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) has unveiled the country’s first, “world-class” hub for additive manufacturing.

Named the AMCen, the $10 million advanced manufacturing center will be equipped with a state-of-the-art prototyping laboratory aimed at increasing the technological readiness, business sophistication and innovative capacity of the Philippines’ manufacturing sector. According to DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, additive manufacturing will play a crucial role in increasing the country’s competitiveness as it gears up for Industry 4.0.

Hetold the Manila Bulletin: “The DOST’s long-term vision is to be the provider of world-class scientific, technological, and innovative solutions that will lead to higher productivity and better quality of life, benefiting the Filipino people. By 2022, the DOST envisions to be a leading Science, Technology, and Innovation Hub in the ASEAN region.

“Building the AMCen is a crucial strategy in achieving this goal. Today, it will go down in the history of manufacturing in the country as a landmark milestone.”
