How is 3D printing advancing hypersonic flight?
Announced duringFarnborough International Airshow 2022, HVX is a reusable Mach 5-plus program undertaken by Rolls-Royce, the UK government’sDefence Science and Technologies Lab(DSTL), theRAF’s Rapid Capabilities Office, and Reaction Engines.
The HVX program combines Rolls-Royce’s jet engine experience with heat exchanger technology developed byReaction Engines. Additive Manufacturing, aka industrial 3D Printing, is an enabling technology.
In this video, Reaction Engines’ rocket scientists Dr. Robert Bond, Head of Future Programmes, and Dr. Emma Ryan, Product Industrialisation Lead, explain more about the SABRE engine and the HVX project.
